Role purpose: 

We are looking for a highly skilled integration Engineer with experience in both back-end development and system integration. You will work in an agile environment to deliver cutting-edge applications using DevOps practices and tools.

You will be reporting to the Senior Integration Engineer within M-Pesa Technology function.

Ultimately, you should be able to create a secure, functional and efficient Api’s and middleware’s for our company, ensuring great user experience.

Key accountabilities and decision ownership:

• Develop digital products – as part of your role, you will be required to develop products that are mobile, api and microservice driven.
•  Devops – you will be required to develop and support various products. Knowledge of devops tooling is a must: git, docker container, Jenkins, Kubernetes
•  Create new ideas and demonstrate them in code – Code quality, understanding of the product and be able to create new services that conform to a standardized development framework.
• Work with product managers and external parties in a team – Work with cross functional teams to ensure successful delivery of a product which includes other developers and product owners.
•  Ensure delivery timelines – Ensuring all projects are delivered on timelines that have been agreed upon.
•  Making use of agile and scrum frameworks in project delivery- making use of tools like Jira, Confluence etc.
•  Developing microservices using sprint, sprint security, Kubernetes and dockers
•  Always be hands on delivering the highest quality and fixing of issues both on development and production.
•  Innovative, open-minded for working with new technologies.

Functional Competencies:

• Bachelor of Science Computer Science, Computer Engineering or Software Development or related subject.
• Experience in Continuous integration and deployment methodologies using automated tools such as Jenkins.
• Basic understanding of cloud computing is a plus
• An understanding of security principles regarding web and mobile applications and tech platforms

Key performance indicator:

1. Delivery of all assigned tasks as per defined quality and committed timelines.
2. Skillset modernization – continuously upskill according to M-Pesa Technology yearly skillset modernization program.

Must have technical / professional qualifications: 

• Bachelor’s degree in computer science or equivalent

•  At least 1 years’ experience in coding in a non-university setting.

•  Experience in Java, spring boot, spring, spring MVC, JEE, MAVEN, spring cloud. Should be conversant in Java. Other programming languages such as C#, Golang will be an added advantage.

• Proven experience with integration technologies such as APIs, web services, and message queues.

• Strong understanding of microservice architecture – Ability to design, develop and implement scalable, elastic microservice based platforms. This will include when and where to use a particular architecture and pattern.

• Working knowledge of relational databases (e.g., MySQL, Oracle, PostgreSQL..).

•  Experience in analytical and problem-solving skills, developing solutions using agile, DevOps, testing and CI/CD automation tools such as Jenkins, JMeter, Git, Stash, SonarQube, GitOps etc will be an added advantage.

•  Build microservices leveraging on cloud Services, Serverless architecture, designing and implementing with full stack solutions leveraging Node or Spring stack.

• Be able to build cloud native and cloud ready solutions using java.

• Strong understanding of Docker-based containers, Kubernetes, or other container schedulers.

•  Understanding of both soap and rest apis and development on swagger UI

•  Strong understanding of cloud technologies – AWS, Azure, GCP

•  Experience with automated testing tools – SonarQube, JUnit

Desired 

• A very good understanding about Java, Spring boot, spring, SOAP, XML, RESTful api and our mainstream IDEs such IntelliJ and VSCode
• Certification in cloud native technologies such as Kubernetes
