Purpose Of The Post
Under general supervision of Supply and Logistics Officer the incumbent provides assistance and support to the Logistics Unit in the management of -Shipping, air freight, customs clearance and tax clearance and any insurance related matters.
Key Responsibilities
- In consultation with supervisor, provide input to the Customs Clearance and Shipping activities. Participate in the forecasting, planning, implementation, monitoring and evaluation of the supply chain operations, including establishment of performance indicators, and assessment of fit for purpose of products and services.
- Attend to all correspondences and documentation related to offshore supplies (sea and air) with Supply Division, global forwarding agents and suppliers.
- Manage air/ seaport & customs clearance related activities through regular follow – up with relevant partners (Government and clearing agent)
- Maintain regular contacts with local government authorities and program partners in an effort to expedite the customs clearance process.
- Close follow up on the bonded stock status and GIT in a regular basis
- Monitor all direct handovers to implementing partners (IPs) and ensure Vision related details are updated and/or closed.
- Provide country specific guidance and advice on shipping matters such as packing, containerization, mode of shipment, staggering, routing. Providing advice for shipping instructions for offshore purchase orders.
- Monitor collection of Model 19s, GRNs, Shipping Area Deliveries in Vision – identifying all outstanding Model 19s, GRNs, and waybills in a running monthly Excel.
- Ensuring that correct procedures related customs clearance is always maintained.
- Prepare Status of Shipments available to UNICEF management and programme staff as and when required.
- Facilitate payment related to the in-country logistics, freight forwarding and local customs clearance

Minimum Requirements
- Education: Secondary Education in any related fields is required.
- Work Experience: At least 7 years of relevant professional experience in operations, supply management, contracting, logistics, supply chain management, procurement, customs clearance, shipping, freight forwarding, inventory management, vendor management, government liaison, import/export activities, or other related fields is required.
- Skills: Proven ability to plan and organize effectively, apply technical expertise with confidence, and uphold a strong sense of accountability, while navigating ambiguity, adapting to change, and consistently delivering high-quality results is required.
- Language Requirements: Fluency in English is required.
Desirables
- Knowledge of another official UN language (Arabic, Chinese, French, Russian or Spanish) or a local language is an asset
- Experience working with international organizations, customs clearance, freight forwarding, ERP systems, government authorities, and supply planning is highly desirable.
- Relevant experience at country level, particularly in development, fragile settings and humanitarian contexts.

UNICEF appointments are subject to medical clearance. Issuance of a visa by the host country of the duty station is required for IP positions and will be facilitated by UNICEF.
