People in Need is a non-governmental, non-profit organization founded on the ideals of humanity, freedom, equality and solidarity.
People in Need was established in 1992 by a group of Czech war correspondents, journalists and activists and has grown to become one of the largest non-profit organization in Central and Eastern Europe.
Throughout our 30 years of existence, People in Need continues to engage in humanitarian aid, development cooperation, education and social inclusion.
We have been operating in Ethiopia since 2003, working in five regions; Oromia, Central Ethiopia, South Ethiopia, Amhara and Tigray in different multi sectoral projects in the areas of development and emergency response.
People in Need, from the very start of its operations in Ethiopia, has focused on projects in five main areas of interest: Education, Agriculture, Climate and Environment, Water and Social protection.
We are part of Alliance 2015, (https://www.alliance2015.org/ a strategic network of seven European non-governmental organizations engaged in humanitarian aid and development projects. This collaboration increases effectiveness, both in working in the target countries and in campaigns change to advocacy aimed at influencing the attitudes and policies of politicians and general public opinion and awareness in Europe.
PIN currently is seeking energetic, disciplined, responsible applicants for the position of Project Coordinator (Maternity Cover) for the specific project entitled “Recovery of Tigray region: sustainable livelihood through access to water and value chain development”
Length of Contract: Definite until October 31/2026
Place of Work: – Based in Mekelle, Tigray Region with frequent travel to PIN’s project sites in different regions as required.
Salary: 589 USD
Position Overview
The Project Coordinator will support the Project Manager in the implementation of the Project. The position is responsible for coordinating day-to-day field activities, ensuring smooth collaboration with local authorities, partners, and communities, and ensuring timely delivery of project outputs in line with donor and PIN standards.
Key Responsibilities
1. Project Implementation and Coordination
Coordinate and supervise field-level implementation of all project activities under the guidance of the Project Manager.
Prepare weekly and monthly work plans and ensure activities are executed according to plan.
Ensure technical quality and compliance with project objectives, donor guidelines, and PIN standards.
Coordinate logistics and procurement requests in collaboration with the project support team.
Facilitate project launch, community mobilization, and training sessions at woreda and kebele levels.
2. Stakeholder Engagement and Representation
Maintain strong coordination with woreda and kebele-level government offices (Agriculture, Water, and Administration).
Ensure active participation of target communities and partners in planning and implementation.
Represent the project in local coordination meetings and provide updates to stakeholders.
3. Monitoring, Reporting, and Documentation
Collect and consolidate data from field activities in coordination with MEAL staff.
Ensure accurate and timely reporting on progress, challenges, and lessons learned.
Document case studies, best practices, and success stories from the field.
4. Team Management and Capacity Building
Supervise and support field officers and community facilitators in planning and implementation.
Conduct regular performance follow-ups, mentoring, and on-the-job coaching.
Promote teamwork, accountability, and professional development among the field team.
5. Cross-cutting Issues
Ensure gender equality, environmental sustainability, and inclusion are mainstreamed in all activities.
Promote community feedback and response mechanisms (CFRM) and ensure issues are promptly addressed.
Accountability and Safeguarding including Prevention of Sexual Exploitation, Abuse and Harassment (SEAH)
Carry out the duties in accordance with the PIN Code of Conduct and Key policies.
Participate in training and awareness raising (CoC and KP, Safeguarding…).
Ensure that his/her team members attend training and awareness sessions and carry out the duties in accordance with PIN Code of Conduct and Key policies.
Ensure that due diligence and/or capacity assessments of partners include an assessment of partners’ implementation of key safeguarding and risk policies/ procedure including the prevention of SEAH.
Create and maintain a fulfilling and protective environment.
Other assignments corresponding to actual needs of the project, program or mission up on the request of line manager/CMT member
