Job Summary

In collaboration with the Women Peacebuilders Oromia Network (WPON), Adoye CEWE
initiates research and advocacy projects to document and amplify the roles of women in conflict
mitigation and peace promotion. Hence, we are seeking a qualified and experienced Research
Consultant to lead a comprehensive study titled “The Role of Oromo Women in Mitigating
Conflict and Promoting Peace in Oromia.” This research aims to explore the unique impacts of
conflict on women and girls, document women’s roles in peacebuilding, and provide actionable
recommendations to support women’s involvement in peace processes.

Key Responsibilities

The Research Consultant will be responsible for:

•  Conducting a comprehensive literature review on the impact of conflict on women in
  Oromia.
• Designing a robust research methodology and data collection tools.
•  Leading field data collection in West Wollega and East Wollega Zones.
•  Engaging with stakeholders, including community leaders, women’s groups, and local
  authorities.
• Analyzing qualitative and quantitative data to identify key findings.
• Drafting and finalizing a comprehensive research report.
•  Presenting findings to stakeholders and contributing to advocacy

Qualifications and Experience
Essential:

•  Masters of degree or preferably PhD candidate in, Gender Studies, political science,
  Peace and Conflict Studies, or related fields.
•  Minimum of 7–10 years of experience in the academia and preferably in research related
  to gender, conflict, or peace building.
•  Proven experience working in complex/conflict-affected areas, preferably in Oromia.
• Strong background in qualitative research, including interviews and focus groups.
• Deep understanding of gender dynamics in conflict contexts.
• Fluent in Afaan Oromo (spoken and written).
• Excellent English writing and analytical skills.
•  Familiarity with Oromia’s social and cultural context.
•  Commitment to ethical research standards.

Desirable:

• Prior experience with women’s organizations or peacebuilding networks in Ethiopia.

Required Skills

• Research and Analytical Skills: Proficiency in designing and conducting qualitative and
  quantitative research, data analysis, and interpretation.
• Communication Skills: Excellent written and verbal communication abilities in both
  Afaan Oromo and English.
• Project Management: Ability to plan, execute, and manage research projects within set
  timelines and budgets.
• Interpersonal Skills: Strong ability to engage with diverse stakeholders, including
  community members, local authorities, and partner organizations.
•  Cultural Competence: Deep understanding of the social and cultural context of the
  Oromia region.
•  Ethical Standards: Commitment to upholding strict ethical research standards, ensuring
  informed consent, confidentiality, and adherence to the ‘Do No Harm’ principle.
