Product Manager – MPESA IMT & Global Payment (Internal/External) Full Time

Role purpose:

Reporting to the Senior Product Manager – M-PESA Business Payments, the Product Manager – M-PESA IMT and Global Payments will be Responsible for the product strategy, execution, and expansion of international money transfers (IMT) and Global Payments, while interacting on a regular basis with the regulator, various partners and Hubs serving different corridors to ensure sustained growth.

This role involves managing the contractual obligations and pricing while ensuring additional and adequate ongoing strategic and tactical focus on the proper execution of the overall IMT and Global Payments strategy.

Key accountabilities and decision ownership:

• Product strategy and roadmap:
• Develop and manage the overall M-PESA remittance strategy from strategic planning through tactical execution
• Own the product roadmap of the organization platform thinking holistically across the entire value chain to further the organization’s position in the market
• Guide the business in the growth of both outward and inward remittances
• Exploit new business opportunities beyond wallet-to-wallet transactions
• IMT Remittance Ecosystem Growth:
• Develop an IMT business strategic partnership framework that defines the contractual engagement for onboarding new partners and Hubs.
• Identify key corridors and strategic partners for key marketing and pricing decisions.
• Work closely with existing and new IMT partners to identify opportunities that will ensure growth on revenue
• Define marketing strategy and plans to grow business in key corridors.
• Product innovation:

·       Responsible for understanding and documenting customers’, businesses’, and partners’ needs and developing and evolving products to meet these needs and solve problems.

·       Develop targeted IMT loyalty scheme aimed at retaining and recruiting new customers.

·       Product analytics, performance, and Competitive assessment:

·       Work with analytics team to analyze business metrics, portfolio performance and competitive assessment of M-PESA Remittance products.

·       In charge of the overall IMT revenue

·       Analyze the impact of the grey route partners and devise a strategy that will reduce impact on the overall business performance

·       Stakeholder & Partner Management:

·       Responsible for working with internal and external partners and stakeholders to launch and maintain relevant use cases for M-PESA Remittance.

·       In liaison with the regulatory team drive deeper relationships with the regulator to ensure approval of new partners to new corridors

·       Working closely with the AML and AML teams ensure proper due diligence and compliance monitoring on existing and new partners

·       Leadership and Mentorship: Responsible for the growth of the team by mentoring, coaching and fostering a culture of innovation, experimentation and continuous improvement.

·       Product Launch & Go-to-Market Strategy: define the M-PESA Remittance and Global Payments product launches, collaborating with Senior Product Manager – M-PESA Business Payments, marketing and sales teams to ensure successful go-to-market.

Core competencies, knowledge and experience:

Business Competencies:

• Must have 3+ years’ experience having directly launched/managed/ operated a mobile money/ mobile banking product.

Fintech background:

• Fintech and Technical background Experience with ability to collaborate closely with engineers.

Creativity and Innovation

• Strong problem-solving skills with an ability to anticipate roadblocks and provide proactive solutions.
• Deep understanding of user experience, identifying user needs, and prioritizing user feedback.

Business Know how

• In-depth understanding of digital payments, mobile money and mobile banking environment.

Working with Change

• Experience with Agile development processes and frequent, incremental testing and deployment.

Project and Programme Management

• Comprehensive knowledge of product development, lifecycle and agile product management practices.

Functional Competencies:

• Experience in product management, demonstrating growing responsibility and successful product delivery.

People Management:

• Past managerial experience, team development, mentoring, coaching.

Must have technical / professional qualifications:

• Minimum of a bachelor’s degree in business, finance, technology or related fields.

Desired

• Fintech background experience will be highly desirable
• Technical background or ability to collaborate closely with engineers.
• An MBA or equivalent will be highly desirable

Financial Responsibility:

Responsible for expending OPEX within approved limits for product specific activity
