Job Summary

Responsible for providing strategic oversight, technical leadership, and quality assurance for the FHE Emergency Nutrition Program. The Coordinator ensures the effective and high-quality implementation of Community-based Management of Acute Malnutrition (CMAM), Infant and Young Child Feeding in Emergencies (IYCF-E), and nutrition commodity management by directly supervising Emergency Nutrition Officers and providing expert support to woreda health offices. This role focuses on program quality, donor compliance, and strengthening systems

Principal Responsibilities

Key Result #1 – Planning, Coordination and Implementation

1. Provide technical leadership and strategic direction to Emergency Nutrition Officers to ensure program activities are implemented to a high standard of quality, aligned with national protocols, SPHERE standards, and donor requirements.
2. Develop and roll out detailed work plans, M&E frameworks, and quality improvement plans for the emergency nutrition program in collaboration with the team.
3. Conduct regular field visits to monitor program quality, verify data, and provide on-the-spot mentoring and corrective actions to Nutrition Officers and health facility staff.
4. Lead the analysis of CMAM performance indicators (cure, default, death rates, etc.) across all sites, identifying trends and implementing programmatic adjustments to improve outcomes.
5. Ensure robust nutrition commodity management systems are in place and functioning, minimizing losses and ensuring accountability from central storage to end-user.

Key Result #2 – Monitoring, Reporting and Technical Support

1. Directly supervise, mentor, and manage the performance of Emergency Nutrition Officers, conducting regular performance reviews and supporting their professional development.
2. Lead the development and delivery of comprehensive training sessions and refresher courses for Nutrition Officers and woreda-level health teams on CMAM, IYCF-E, supply chain management, and reporting.
3. Strengthen the capacity of the team in data analysis, report writing, and problem-solving to enhance program impact and accountability.
4. Facilitate coordination meetings among the field team to share challenges, best practices, and ensure a unified approach to program implementation.

Key Result #3 – Capacity Building and Supervision

1. Oversee the timely and accurate compilation of all program data and the preparation of high-quality periodic reports (monthly, quarterly, annual) for CRS, USAID, and relevant government bodies.
2. Ensure all program activities and reports are in strict compliance with JEOP/USAID Title II guidelines and FH policies.
3. Represent FH at high-level Zonal/Regional ENCU and Nutrition Cluster meetings, acting as the primary technical focal point for the emergency nutrition program.
4. Liaise strategically with CRS, regional health bureaus, and other key partners to advocate for program needs, ensure coordination, and leverage resources.
5. Lead or contribute significantly to the documentation of program successes, lessons learned, and case studies for internal learning and external communication.

Key Result #4 – Coordination and Representation

1. Proactively identify gaps in the nutrition response and health system and work with senior management and partners to develop and implement sustainable solutions.
2. Foster strong, collaborative relationships with government counterparts to support the transition and integration of services into the public health system where appropriate.
3. Coordinate with other sectors (e.g., Food Security, WASH) within FH to promote integrated programming and maximize impact on household nutrition.

Experience

• Minimum 5 years of experience in nutrition programming, with significant experience in emergency settings.
• Demonstrated experience in supervising and managing a team.
• Proven experience with CMAM, IYCF-E, and nutrition commodity management (RUTF/RUSF/F75/F100).
• Prior experience with JEOP or USAID Title II-funded programs is highly preferred.
• Experience in program quality assurance, donor reporting, and budget management.

Education/Certifications

• ⮚ BSc in Public Health, Nursing, Nutrition, or a related field.
• ⮚ Master’s degree is preferred.

Distinguishing Competencies

⮚In-depth understanding of Ethiopia’s emergency nutrition guidelines, cluster system, and donor compliance requirements.

⮚Proven technical competency in emergency nutrition and ability to provide high-level technical guidance.

⮚Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and strategic planning skills.

⮚Willingness to travel frequently (approx. 50%) to field locations under challenging conditions.

⮚Superior communication, representation, and report-writing skills.

Language

⮚ Proficiency in spoken and written English language.

⮚ Knowledge and communication in the local language is preferred.

Supervisory Responsibility

⮚ This position directly supervises Emergency Nutrition Officers and has technical oversight of program staff.

⮚ Visiting project Offices and operational areas periodically to meet staff and making sure that all staff members are aware of the safety and security procedures;

⮚ Explains to staffs the reasoning behind the organization’s safety and security policies and procedures

⮚ Organizing local training sessions, such as First Aid, Fire Safety, and Defensive Driving for staff members. If possible, he/she should conduct briefing and training sessions himself/herself;

⮚ Ensures that safety and security objectives are added to performance reviews and evaluations of all staff members;

⮚ Encourages staffs to adopt safe and secure practices. Ensuring that updated personnel information related to safety (Record of Emergency Data) and security management are kept in Human resources.
