Project Description.
The purpose of the Feed the Future Ethiopia Transforming Agriculture activity is to increase access to healthy diets, particularly for women and children, by improving competitiveness, inclusiveness, and resilience of the Ethiopian food and agriculture system. The project scope targets private sector partnerships engaged in a market systems approach to strengthening the Ethiopian food system. The project collaborates with the Ministry of Agriculture and many other agencies and USAID programs to leverage resources and achieve impact at scale.
Position Description.
The Livestock Market Systems Officer will be responsible for assisting with designing and implementing livestock interventions and technical activities in the region. The Livestock Market System Officer will ensure that the Transforming Agriculture program runs smoothly by coordinating activities, maintaining schedules, managing communication, and ensuring adherence to policies and procedures. This position will be based in the locations identified above, with frequent travel to project areas in the region and will report to the Area Program Manager for their assigned location.
What You’ll Do
Your primary responsibilities will include but not be limited to:
- Assist in designing and implementing food security system activities in assigned region.
- Work closely with the area program coordinator and other technical team to develop and execute project work plans and maintain technical oversight of all livestock related interventions. These activities must contribute in meaningful and measurable ways to food security, through improvements to productivity, quality, production efficiencies, livestock profitability, food accessibility and food affordability.
- Assist in designing and monitoring program activities intended to achieve improved livestock activities within the region. Incentivize the broad participation of livestock actors and facilitate entry of new actors and new investment into the livestock sector.
- Oversee regional subcontractors and consultants for livestock interventions as assigned.
- Contribute to the design and implementation of catalytic project grants under contract mechanism designed to spur private sector investment, act as an engagement manager, and ensure quality of results and tangible impact against deliverables specified in the grant agreements.
- Support Monitoring, Evaluation, and Learning (MEL) team on livestock value chain real-time data collection.
- Liaison between stakeholders such as government, private as well as donor programs who are directly or indirectly working in the livestock sector in the region. Provide technical guidance and serve as a subject matter expert.
