Role Purpose

The Health and Nutrition Officer is responsible for the day-to-day implementation, coordination, and supervision of integrated Health and Nutrition programme activities within assigned operational areas. The role ensures quality, timely, and accountable delivery of lifesaving primary health care, SRH, nutrition, and community health interventions in close coordination with consortium partners, government health structures, and other sectors (including WASH, MHPSS, Protection, and ESNFI) to ensure an integrated and holistic humanitarian response.

Key responsibilities summary

Programme Implementation and Technical Delivery

• Lead and oversee the day-to-day implementation of integrated Health and Nutrition activities in line with approved work plans, SOPs, and donor requirements.
• Support restoration and strengthening of essential primary and secondary health services, including SRH services aligned with MISP .
• Support implementation of integrated nutrition services (IMAM/CMAM), including OTP/SC services, MAMI, and IYCF-E interventions in collaboration with health facilities and community platforms.
• Ensure timely last-mile delivery of essential medicines, nutrition supplies (including therapeutic milks), and health commodities to targeted health facilities.
• Support outbreak preparedness and response, including disease surveillance, immunization campaigns, and community-based health promotion.

  Capacity Building and Quality Improvement

• Provide on-the-job training, mentorship, and supportive supervision for health workers, HEWs, and community health actors.
• Support digital health reporting systems (e.g., DHIS2/PIMS) and strengthen routine data quality and reporting mechanisms.
• Contribute to minor rehabilitation and functionality improvements of selected health facilities, including biomedical equipment maintenance and IPC strengthening.

  Community Health and Demand Creation

• Support community sensitization and health promotion activities focusing on MNCH, SRH service uptake, nutrition services, and referral pathways.
• Strengthen community-based screening (e.g., Family MUAC) and early detection of malnutrition and maternal/child health risks.
• Promote integrated referral systems between community, primary health facilities, and secondary hospitals, including support for referral tracking and patient transport coordination where applicable.

  Coordination and Multi-Sector Integration

• Actively coordinate with consortium partners and other sectors (WASH, MHPSS, Protection, ESNFI) to ensure integrated service delivery at facility and community levels.
• Collaborate with WASH teams to ensure IPC, water supply, sanitation, and hygiene standards are maintained in health facilities.
• Work closely with MHPSS teams to integrate psychosocial support into health service delivery points and referral systems.
• Coordinate with Protection actors to ensure safe referral pathways for GBV survivors and vulnerable groups accessing health services.
• Participate in joint planning, assessments, monitoring missions, and multi-sector coordination meetings at field level.

  Monitoring, Reporting, and Accountability

• Conduct regular field monitoring visits to assess progress, quality of services, and community feedback.
• Prepare and submit timely weekly and monthly narrative and quantitative reports.
• Support needs assessments and program learning exercises.
• Ensure accountability mechanisms are in place and community feedback is systematically captured and addressed.

  Logistics and Resource Management

• Coordinate closely with logistics teams for procurement, transportation, and distribution of health and nutrition supplies.
• Ensure efficient and transparent use of resources in line with organizational policies and donor compliance requirements.

  Safeguarding and Organizational Values

• Uphold and promote organizational values including safeguarding, accountability, equality, diversity, and inclusion.
• Ensure all activities are implemented in a safe, ethical, and conflict-sensitive manner.
• Participate in emergency preparedness and response activities as required.

Essential knowledge, skills and experience

• Master’s degree in Public Health (MPH) with a Bachelor of Science (BSc) degree in Public Health or Nursing.
• Proven experience 3-4 years relevant experience in implementation of integrated Health and Nutrition programmes in humanitarian or emergency settings.
• Strong technical knowledge of SRH, IMAM/CMAM, MHPSS integration, and primary health care systems.
• Experience working with government health systems, NGOs, and multi-sectoral consortiums.
• Strong coordination, communication, and interpersonal skills.
• Ability to work in complex, insecure, and fast-changing environments.
• Proficiency in MS Office applications and basic health data systems (e.g., DHIS2).
• Fluency in English; knowledge of local language is an asset.
