Job Overview

The Grant Finance Manager, reporting to the Director of Programs, collaborates with the proposal development strategist to support overall business development and grants management. This role involves budget proposal preparation (including narratives), donor compliance, financial reporting, and capacity-building efforts. Based in Addis Ababa, the position includes occasional national and international travel to project sites. The Grant Finance Manager works closely with the finance team, program team, partner organizations, field coordinators, operations team, and country and field office finance teams.

Key Responsibilities:

Budget Development and Management:

• Lead the development of high-quality budgets for new proposals, modifications, and realignments while ensuring compliance with Humedica and donor guidelines.
• Create detailed budget narratives tailored to donors including GFFO, BMZ, USAID, EHF, and ECHO.
• Act as a key contact for donors regarding budget-related queries and processes.
• Develop standardized tools and processes for effective budget management and realignment.

Donor Compliance and Reporting:

• Ensure compliance with donor regulations and Humedica’s internal policies.
• Regularly update trackers such as Active Grants and Pipeline Tracker and Burn Rate Tracker.
• Prepare and review donor financial reports alongside program managers and finance officers.

Financial Monitoring and Analysis:

• Conduct monthly budget vs. actual (BVA) analysis and commitment tracking updates.
• Provide ad-hoc data research and analysis and organize refresher training on donor compliance rules and internal policies.

Capacity Building and Audits:

• Train staff and partners in advanced Excel, budgeting, and compliance principles.
• Assist in internal audits and ensure the implementation of audit recommendations.
• Make field visits to verify policy implementation and facilitate compliance adherence.

Qualifications

Knowledge and Experience:

• Bachelor’s, Master’s, or PhD in Finance, Accounting, or related fields, with a minimum of 12 years of experience for BA holders, 10 years for MA holders, or 8 years for PhD holders, including at least 3 years in a managerial role.
• Strongly preferred experience in managing grants funded by GFFO, BMZ, EU, USAID, Emergency Humanitarian Funding (EHF), and ECHO.
• Certification in CPA, ACCA, or an equivalent qualification is preferred but not mandatory.
• Proficiency in advanced MS Office programs, especially Excel, along with expertise in general ledger software.
• Prior experience with donor-funded grants and compliance, ideally within INGOs or nonprofit organizations.
