Job Description
Introduction Positive Action for Development (PAD) is one of the most vibrant and expanding Ethiopian resident Civil Society Organizations in Ethiopia. We are a results-oriented civil society organization that implements efficient, effective, and sustainable charitable organizations in Ethiopia.
Positive Action for Development (PAD) is currently undertaking a dramatic scale-up of intervention focusing on development programs such as; urban destitute peacebuilding and democratization, child protection, Youth Development, Migrant returnees, Emergency, peacebuilding; health and livelihood development for low-income and vulnerable women, children youth and adults in Ethiopia. This includes expanding PAD intervention into different parts of the country including Addis Ababa, Amhara, Oromia, Benishangul, Afar, Tigray, Harari, and Somali regional states in Ethiopia.
Overall Responsibility
The field project officer supports the day-to-day results-based implementation of its reintegration project activities. Under the direct supervision of the project manager, the field project officer will work closely with the program team and in the target area; he/she will work closely with the other staff and target beneficiaries.
Specific Responsibilities
- Prepare periodic project plans on a weekly, monthly, quarterly, and annual basis
- Under the close follow-up of the project manager, develop vulnerability criteria and facilitate the selection of project beneficiaries
- Conduct training needs assessments in relation to the income-generating activity
- Facilitate capacity building, business management & entrepreneurship, and saving training for targeted beneficiaries
- Provide technical assistance for beneficiaries in relation to business
- Lead the establishment of VSLAs/business groups to engage in income-generating activities
- Facilitate leadership, BDS, and financial capability training for targeted beneficiaries.
- Providing start-up capital for beneficiaries fulfilled the right procedure
- Provide on-the-job technical mentor and coaching for target beneficiaries engaged in income generating activities.
- Establish business enterprises based on the identified business plan
- With close collaboration of stakeholders, secure working areas for beneficiaries
- Together with the procurement coordinator, purchase and distribute start-up kits required for enterprises
- Link target beneficiaries/ IGA groups with microfinance institutions
- Ensure appropriate market linkage has been facilitated for those engaged in IGA activities
- Ensure economic strengthening activities are implemented in line with standards and basic principles.
- Facilitate need-based vocational skills training for project targets
- Demonstrated understanding of the current business environment and practice particularly in SMEs and Informal business
- Provide business skill training, business development, and mentorship services for small businesses
- Assist cooperatives in developing marketing strategies to promote their products and services effectively
- Facilitate a community meetings and workshops to share project progress, celebrate success, or disseminate learning at the end of the project period
- Develop quality reports timely and submit them to the field project manager
- Develop success and change stories of the project
- Create and maintain comprehensive project documentation including beneficiary data.
About You
Qualification MA/BA Degree in Economics, business administration, management, Sociology, or other relevant fields
Experience Previous 3 years of experience working with migrant returnees in an NGO environment, preferably ES field
Additional Skills Attitudes and Attributes
- Excellent command of written and spoken English is essential
- Understanding of basic program management, financial management, and an ability to work with numbers, is an advantage
- Excellent computer skills, including Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook
- High level of interpersonal communication & negotiation skills
- Strong work ethic and ability to meet deadlines
- Understanding of the issues surrounding various charitable activities and understanding major policies/issues of large bilateral/multilateral donors
- Strong working knowledge of business practices
- Leadership skills – demonstrated ability to build effective teams
