Responsibilities
Key Responsibilities
- Install, configure, and maintain database systems (such as Oracle, MySQL, PostgreSQL, SQL Server and MongoDB)
- Monitor database performance and optimize queries for speed and efficiency
- Ensure data integrity, accuracy, and consistency
- Participate in database patching and/or upgrading
- Perform regular database backups and recovery operations
- Manage user access, permissions, and security policies
- Troubleshoot database errors and system failures
- Plan and implement database upgrades and patches
- Design and maintain database structures and schemas
- Collaborate with developers and IT teams to support applications
- Ensure compliance with data protection and privacy regulations
- Technical Skills
- SQL and database scripting
- Backup and recovery tools
- Performance tuning and monitoring tools (such as Oracle Enterprise Manager, SQL Server Management Studio, pgAdmin, MySQL Workbench).
- Operating systems (Linux/Windows servers)
- Cloud databases (such as AWS RDS, Oracle, Azure SQL, or Google Cloud SQL)
Qualifications
Required Skills and Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in computer science, Information Technology, or a related field (often preferred)
- Oracle Certified Associate (OCA) or equivalent mid-level database administration certification.
- Strong knowledge of database management systems (DBMS)
- Proficiency in SQL and database querying
- Understanding of data security, encryption, and access control
- Ability to analyze and improve system performance
- Problem-solving and troubleshooting skills
- Attention to detail and strong organizational skills
Work Environment
- Typically works in offices, and/or data centers,
- required to be available on a 24/7 basis for emergencies or system failures
- Works closely with developers, system administrators, and cybersecurity teams
