About ASDEPO:

Action for Social Development and Environmental Protection Organization (ASDEPO) is an Ethiopian indigenous, “Civil Society Organization” established in 2014. ASDEPO is mandated to operate in all regional states of the country and is engaged indifferent thematic program areas of intervention namely: Humanitarian Response, Education, Nutrition, Health/HIV and AIDS/RH, Women and Youth Economic Empowerment, Gender Based Violence and Child Protection, Migration/Human Trafficking, Water, Sanitation and Hygiene (Wash), NTD’s Climate Change, Agriculture, Urban Agriculture, Environmental Protection and Training in Addis Ababa, Gambella, Oromia, Amhara, Benishangul Gumuz, Afar, SNNPR and Somali Region.

Job purpose

The Woreda Education Project Officer will lead and coordinate day-to-day implementation of ASDEPO’s education and Safe Schools interventions at woreda level. The position will work closely with woreda and zonal education offices, schools, teachers, girls’ clubs, communities, protection and GBV actors, and other stakeholders to improve adolescent girls’ access to, retention in, and completion of safe, inclusive and quality secondary education. The Officer will ensure that project activities are implemented on time, to the required quality standards, and in compliance with ASDEPO policies and procedures, donor requirements, and safeguarding principles.

Key Responsibilities and Duties

• Coordinate and oversee implementation of project activities in the assigned woreda and supported secondary schools in accordance with the approved workplan, budget and logframe.
• Maintain regular working relationships with the Woreda Education Office, school leaders, teachers, school management committees, girls’ clubs, community leaders and relevant protection/GBV service providers.
• Facilitate and support trainings, workshops, sensitization campaigns, girls’ club activities, mentorship, psychosocial support group sessions, community dialogues and other project events.
• Support schools and communities to strengthen safe learning environments, risk mitigation, disaster preparedness, early warning and school safety measures.
• Promote girls’ retention and re-enrolment through Back-to-School campaigns, mentorship, remedial learning advocacy and identification of girls at risk of dropout.
• Support girl-led initiatives on leadership, peer mentorship, GBV prevention, communication, advocacy, gender equality and social norm change.
• Support implementation of Safe Schools Declaration-related awareness, advocacy and coordination activities at woreda level.
• Prepare regular field updates, activity reports, success stories, case examples and documentation of lessons learned and challenges.
• Track implementation progress against the project workplan and indicators, identify delays or risks early, and propose corrective actions to the Project Manager.
• Represent ASDEPO professionally in woreda-level coordination meetings, technical forums and stakeholder engagements as delegated.
• Perform other related duties assigned by the supervisor in support of effective project delivery.

Safeguarding and Accountability

The post holder is expected to uphold ASDEPO’s safeguarding and protection standards, including child safeguarding, prevention of sexual exploitation and abuse, non-discrimination, confidentiality, accountability to affected populations and the principle of do no harm. The Officer must immediately report suspected or observed safeguarding or serious protection concerns through ASDEPO’s established reporting mechanisms.

Qualifications and Experience

• Minimum Bachelor’s degree in Education, Educational Planning/Management, Psychology, Social Sciences, Development Studies, Gender Studies, or a closely related field.
• At least 3 years of relevant professional experience in education, child protection, gender, humanitarian/development programming or community-based projects in NGO settings.
• Demonstrated experience working with woreda education offices, secondary schools, teachers, school management structures and community stakeholders.
• Experience in adolescent girls’ education, Safe Schools Advocacies, GBV prevention/response, child protection, psychosocial support, , or girls’ empowerment is an advantage.
• Experience facilitating trainings, community dialogues, school-based activities and stakeholder coordination meetings.
• Experience in project monitoring, documentation, reporting and use of basic data-collection/management tools.
• Knowledge of the Ethiopian education system and the local context of Amhara/West Gojjam zone is advantageous.
• Fluency in Amharic and strong English communication skills is required.
