BACKGROUND:
The Ethiopian Agricultural Transformation Institute (ATI), formerly known as the Agricultural Transformation Agency (ATA), is a strategy and delivery-oriented government institute created to help accelerate the growth and transformation of Ethiopia’s agriculture sector, which is a key contributor to the country’s GDP, exports, and workforce. The ATI’s work is center on improving the livelihoods of smallholder farmers (SHFs) across the country for improved income, inclusiveness, resilience, and sustainability.
The ATI works to transform the agriculture sector in Ethiopia by conducting policy and analytical studies, providing technical implementation support and capacity building, coordinating. platforms to better integrate partners and projects and designing and directly leading several innovative/pilot interventions. The Institute joins forces with various stakeholders, including policymakers, researchers, farmers, and development partners, to support the implementation of agricultural development programs and initiatives. In addition, the ATI collaborates with national and international partners to facilitate knowledge exchange and learning opportunities. The Institute plays a crucial role in generating and disseminating information to support evidence-based decision-making in Ethiopia’s agricultural sector.

POSITION SUMMARY:
The horticulture subcomponent is intended to enhance surplus production and quality of horticulture priority commodity by improving the current production and productivity levels through cluster farming. The subcomponent mainly focuses on consolidating the Farmers’ Production Clusters into a legalized horticulture Farmers Production and Agribusiness Companies. The project will support the companies across the value chain by enhancing production, productivity, and resource mobilization, while also promoting the adoption of improved farming practices. The sanitary and phytosanitary compliance in the horticulture sector will also be addressed through promoting Good Agricultural Practices (GAP). The smallholder farmers will be supported through capacity building and in getting Global GAP certificate to meet sanitary and phytosanitary compliance. Support for laboratory accreditation for maximum Residue Level (MRL) assessment is also one of the intervention areas of the subcomponent to address sanitary and phytosanitary compliance in horticulture sector. Hence, the key objectives include supporting Farmers Production and Agribusiness Companies across the value chain by establishing basic collection facilities and cold chains, promoting quality standards to minimize product loss, promoting key agronomic practices and GAP, and ensuring access to inputs, extension services, and mechanization.
The regional Horticulture Value Chain Development technical expert will provide crop and soil related analytical and technical support for inclusive and sustainable agriculture value chain development as well as capacity building across all implementing partners/stakeholders including farmers to increase production and productivity and ensure commercialization through strengthening horticulture farmer production and agribusiness companies.
MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBLITIES:
